USA Cycling is making a big push to help improve the ability, safety, and skills of all beginning racers. I guess the Crash 5’s nickname is something they want to get away from…we don’t blame them.

The awesome side bonus is that everyone person participating in this program that attends ALL 5 clinics, races, and post race recap’s will be eligible for their Category 4 Upgrade.

We are pleased to be the coaches for the Memphis area “Beginner Racer Program” that will be held in conjunction with the Tiger Lane Crit Series (Memphis, TN) and the Rockabilly Gran Prix (Jackson, TN).

Details of the program:

• 5 x 60 minute clinics with each clinic focused on a different race skill (see clinic breakdown below)
• 5 x Cat 5 races that will include “mentors” from the clinic IN THE RACE to analyze the race and offer encouragement
• 5 x 10 minute post race recap with all the racers from the program AND the mentors to receive feedback on what the mentors witnessed and how to improve
• 2 Category Upgrade Points Per Clinic and Race: attend the clinic, do the race, listen to the recap

In short, you sign up for one or more of the clinics and associated races. The clinic provides you with specific skills with the focus on maximizing hands-on drills. You go out and try your hand at racing. The group receives feedback on how to improve and what to do more safely, differently, etc.

Breakdown of each clinic:

Clinics 1-4 will begin at 4:00 pm and last 45-60 min.

• Registration for the Tiger Lane Crit and BRP Clinic are rolled into one fee.
• You must register separately (below) for the Rockabilly Gran Prix Omnium race and the BRP clinic.

• Q.Can you register for select dates or do you have to do them all?

  A.You can pick and choose the events that you want to attend. We encourage attendance at all the events, but realize this may not work for everyone.

• Q.Do you have to do the race, or can you just do the clinic?

  A.In order to receive your credit for attendance (and the two upgrade points), you must attend the skills work before the race, compete in the race, and attend the post race wrap-up. All three are required.

  If you’re just wanting the skills and are not concerned with the points, then you may just participate in the pre-event skills portion and will be listed as a DNS on the race results.
